The Inspiration
When me and the owner of Besteas, Allie Steele, sat down to talk about what she envisioned the menu to look like, she wanted a contemporary, “hipster,” menu to match the tea rooms atmosphere. So that’s what I did.
The Technique
Most bubble tea menus are very sporadic. There are so many combinations to create a bubble tea that content management was key when creating this menu. Usually when creating a contemporary style menu, you incorporate minimalism. With this menu having so much content, it was hard to do that. I try to incorporate blank space wherever I could. I also used bold headers to lead the reader's eye to where they wanted to read.
The Details
One detail I chose to incorporate was “boba” circles as the numbering system and in treats. This kept with the overall bubble tea theme and made the menu more fun and less serious. I also played with vertical typography to add another playful element and to create more space to really drive home the contemporary look.
